Mediterranean broadcasters: media must support the immigrants

For several years now, the dramatic events that shake the Mediterranean have been making the mediaheadlines: the stories of survivors of sea tragedies; images of men, women and children escaping from theirhome countries due to conflicts and economic crisis, or for personal, ideological or religious reasons; dataand statistics that give, coldly, a dimension of this exodus.

Chairman of the Greek Telecommunications Authority resigned ahead of the left-wing government

The resignation of Chairman of the Greek Authority for Telecommunications (EETT) Mr. Costas Louropoulos marks the beginning for the upcoming reforms in the broadcasting market, ahead of the left-wing SYRIZA government. The resignation was filed on the last business day before the elections. The official statement was "due to personal reasons", but many are led to the conclusion that it has been politically motivated, in view of an upcoming government. Note also that Louropoulos presided EETT during the monopolizing concession of the entire digital broadcasting spectrum to the consortium of five major private channels named "Digea", which he had defended himself. SYRIZA however denounced the process as "rigged" and the party has committed to reverting it when they form a government.

Sports radio journalist stabbed while presenting his radio show

"The Board of the Panhellenic Association of Sports Press (PSAT) condemns in the strongest terms, the cowardly and murderous attack against sports journalist, member of the PSAT in Larissa, John Kaloyiannis with a sharp object. The journalist, who fortunately is in good health, was attacked by two people into the radio station «ok Radio» Larissa while presenting his show, whereas one of them hit him with a sharp object.

Most powerful Greek Radio transmitter looted by burglars after having been abandoned

Destruction of the allegedly most powerful medium wave transmitter of the Greek public broadcasting Service was reported during the Christmas holidays, few days after the power disruption ordered by the administrators of the estate of former ERT who reside in Athens. As reported by the local press, the burglars took advantage of the interruption of transmitions, invaded the transmitter facilities in Kalithea Rhodes and took loot. They stole all precious metal of the transmitter and its facilities, the cost of which exceeds EUR 100,000.

EBU accepted NERIT after 1Mi. of debts was paid. Coincidence?

The General Assembly of EBU proceeded to the recognition of the Greek public broadcaster NERIT as an official member of the union. The decision came just before the beginning of this year's Eurovision process, after a series of complications that has lasted about one and a half years, since the closure of ERT.
