Rush to air one Greek Public Radio, ahead of the High Court on Friday

Greek government ordered the heads of the "interim" broadcaster to air one public radio service by the end of the week, as the High Court will be discussing the issue of ERT switch-off on Friday. According to an article by enikos.gr, it is expected that one public radio station will start operating on Thursday featuring news and sports, merging the format of former 1st Radio Service and ERA Sport.

Greek shortwave to be dismantled after order by Ministry of Finance

The degradation of Greek Radio is going on, having shortwave radio "Voice of Greece" as a victim. This includes 39 shortwave antenna masts hosted in Avlis, which the government plans to sell as scrap metal. The shortwave service started 75 years ago and it is still transmitting in 5 frequencies that cover the globe with shows in Greek for expatriates and foreign language news. The facilities are currently controlled by redundant ERT employes and broadcast the guerilla service of the Greek National Radio ERA. Eighteen months ago, shortwave facilities in Thessaloniki were dismantled.

Letter by a sacked journalist: "You are going to pay for Stefania's tears."

On Friday, at 11 am, I received the call I had been waiting for a long time by the Director of the newspaper. He invited me to his office, where he told me that "he regrets having to announce this". He did not tell me what he exactly regrets and I did not bother to get him out of that, by flagging what he regrets. He then told me that himself, he does not really want me to leave the newspaper and that he is very sorry. I consoled him cheerlessly for this unfortunate situation.

#ERT: plea for sattelite capacity

The Greek government tried to shut down ERT, the public national broadcaster, on the 11th of June. The employees, in response to the popular demand and outcry of the public in Greece and abroad, kept –and are determined to continue keeping- ERT open, by broadcasting a full radio and television programme through the internet and by any other means suitable and available.

Help and technical support from the EBU was crucial for 70 consequent days; but is now over, since the international body decided to cease the re-distribution streaming of the broadcasts by the employees of ERT.
