Chairman of the Greek Telecommunications Authority resigned ahead of the left-wing government

The resignation of Chairman of the Greek Authority for Telecommunications (EETT) Mr. Costas Louropoulos marks the beginning for the upcoming reforms in the broadcasting market, ahead of the left-wing SYRIZA government. The resignation was filed on the last business day before the elections. The official statement was "due to personal reasons", but many are led to the conclusion that it has been politically motivated, in view of an upcoming government. Note also that Louropoulos presided EETT during the monopolizing concession of the entire digital broadcasting spectrum to the consortium of five major private channels named "Digea", which he had defended himself. SYRIZA however denounced the process as "rigged" and the party has committed to reverting it when they form a government.

The two-year term of Louropoulos left behind the same chaos to radio frequencies that received, the state had never a full overview of what stations transmit and where, while the legality enforcement operations on Hymettus and other mountains of Attica had effect only for an afternoon, as the pirates started broadcasting again the day after.

The new president of EETT will be set by the Minister responsible for Press and Media.
