Greek public broadcaster ERT requests a tender for 320 DVB-T transmitters

The Greek Public Broadcaster ERT announced a request for tender, for the supply of 300 digital broadcast transmitters. The transmitters will use to expand the public television network digital broadcast system, so that the ERT can have its own DVB-T broadcasting network throughout Greece. The competition is international and electronic, and involves the supply, installation and commissioning of 320 transmitters of digital terrestrial broadcasting, having as the award criterion the most economically advantageous tender. ERT has a budget of EUR 5.43 million for the particular expense.

Consultation with radio owners for the new radio frequencies of Athens

Last week, minister Christos Spirtzis and general secretary Lefteris Kretsis met with the Association of Owners of Private Radio stations of Attica (EIIRA). During the meeting, the frequency map of Attica was submitted for consultation, it was proposed to reduce the frequency distance between the radio stations, it was suggested to have a public organization to conduct the radio surveys, while it appeared that the licensing of radio will wait a bit for the licensing of TV broadcasters.

Ο Up Radio turns into a pop radio

Just a few weeks after returning Best Radio, the end has come to the dance radio station of Athens. Up Radio 88,6 will be renamed to Panta and converted to Greek and foreign music pop radio. According to the e-tetradio, the administration of the station will be undertaken by Izy Koutiel, manager of former Pop FM. The station name is reminiscent of the former Ola FM radio station in Thessaloniki.

Christos Spirtzis, Transport Infrastructure and Networks Minister of Greece, starts the public consultation with radio associations, in order to change the institutional framework for the authorization and operation of radio stations. All relevan unions will be invited to the public consultation.

Greek Parliament approved re-establishing public broadcaster ERT

The Greek Parliament approved at 1.20 am yesterday the law for re-establishing the public broadcaster ERT, that had been shut down in June 2013 by the leading conservative party at that time. The decision was applaused by a number of former employess of ERT who were watching the parliamentary discussion.

Greek radio broadcasting antennas to be registered after 25 years of radio for the first time

The National Telecommunications and Post Commission of Greece shall enable the legal obligation on the registration of radio broadcast antennas for radio stations, that has official started on the beginning of the year. According to Commision, they invite radio stations across the country to do online registration and declaration of antenna systems by using the special web application "System for Electronic Filing" (SILYA), developed by the Authority. The deadline is set for June 17, 2015.

A yet unofficial resignation was submitted by Chairman of the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) Ioannis Laskaridis and members Ioannis Papakostas and Evi Demiri to the chairman of the House Life Konstantopoulou, according to the newspaper of the governmental party Avgi.

Greek convernment starts legal fight against monopoly carrier contract for digital TV

A series of questions, according which the legality of the DVB-t contract of the Greek state with Digea is being questioned, were sent by the left wing Greek government to the National Telecommunications Commission of Greece. According to the document, which was published first by infocom.gr, the Minister clearly sets legally worded questions, according to which the auction conducted by the Telecommunications Commission and was won by the consortium of major TV channels, is illegal and should possibly have been canceled.

Nikos Pappas new Greek Minister of state - In charge of licensing radio and TV

The Government Gazette published on Friday night the decision 207 B '/ 30.1.2015 by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, which defines the powers of new Minister of State Nikos Pappás. Specifically, Mr. Pappas gets all responsibilities related to the Secretariat General of Information and the General Secretariat of Communication and Promotion, including the supervision of legal bodies and entities subject to these, and also issues of the Public Broadcaster.

Chairman of the Greek Telecommunications Authority resigned ahead of the left-wing government

The resignation of Chairman of the Greek Authority for Telecommunications (EETT) Mr. Costas Louropoulos marks the beginning for the upcoming reforms in the broadcasting market, ahead of the left-wing SYRIZA government. The resignation was filed on the last business day before the elections. The official statement was "due to personal reasons", but many are led to the conclusion that it has been politically motivated, in view of an upcoming government. Note also that Louropoulos presided EETT during the monopolizing concession of the entire digital broadcasting spectrum to the consortium of five major private channels named "Digea", which he had defended himself. SYRIZA however denounced the process as "rigged" and the party has committed to reverting it when they form a government.
