Greek public broadcaster ERT requests a tender for 320 DVB-T transmitters

The Greek Public Broadcaster ERT announced a request for tender, for the supply of 300 digital broadcast transmitters. The transmitters will use to expand the public television network digital broadcast system, so that the ERT can have its own DVB-T broadcasting network throughout Greece. The competition is international and electronic, and involves the supply, installation and commissioning of 320 transmitters of digital terrestrial broadcasting, having as the award criterion the most economically advantageous tender. ERT has a budget of EUR 5.43 million for the particular expense.

The submission of proposals will be made until Wednesday 09 March 2016 at 24:00, including the submission of written proposals to the addresses lmangerasatert.gr dgazidellisatert.gr pkakavaatert.gr and through the platform of the National System of Electronic Public Procurement Prometheus. Recall that the request is being announced again, shortly after the declaration of the previous request as barren, in December 2015.

The transmitters must be capable of being converted to support the DVB-T2 standard, in case of a future upgrade of the broadcast network. The project also includes the provision of education services to the ERT technical staff about the use and operation of the equipment, and of technical support services in accordance with the issue of Technical Specifications. The project will have one year performance guarantee, plus one year warranty on the equipment.

The digital platform of ERT also broadcasts all of the nationwide radio programs, while this signal is already supplying the relay for several local transmitters of FM.

By acquiring its own network, public television can finally stop renting transmitters from Digea, the consortium of private channels, as in the past two years, ever since NERIT. Despite the delays, the government has declared its intention to make the public television independent of the private channels, and specified further weaken Digea, with the eventual provision of network services by the ERT itself, or a subsidiary, to smaller or local channels.

Shortly before the start of the procedure for the licensing of private broadcasters, many claim that this movement has already been delayed too much, since the relay contract with Digea was recently renewed. The reason however makes sense, as it was impossible for the organizational structure of ERT, after the restructuring, with such a reduced budget, to move any quicker. The fact of course that the resumption of ERT happened five whole months after the election of the new government, is certainly credited to the negligence of the political leadership of ministries.
