The agenda of the plenary session of the Greek National Broadcasting Council (ESR) today included the application of the unpaid employees of news Flash radio, who want to acquire its frequency, as it is suggested by a recent law about bankrupt radio stations. According a report by Vassilis Koufopoulos, the Union of Owners of Private Radio Stations of Attica (EIIRA) intervened and asked to speak to the Council, which has been scheduled for next week. Radio scene of Greece is expected to undergo a big change, if the government goes ahead with their plan to grant licenses for commercial radio stations with nationwide coverage. According to a report by Stelios Ioannou in Naftemporiki, the procedure for allocating radio frequencies will take place once more (since none of the previous efforts has been implemented), whereas there is a case that local frequencies will be retained, so that they can be granted to radio enterprises aiming to a nationwide coverage. The National Broadcasting Council, in response to the difficult economic situation, the increased public interest in economic issues of the country and the constitutional requirement from public and private broadcasters to ensure the quality level of news and information programs, is indicating that the Public and private broadcasters in the country such as the transmission of news and information emissions shall take care that:

An answer to the issue publicised by radiofono.gr, has been given via a press release of the Larissa radio stations, who submitted complaints to the National Broadcasting Council (ESR), attaching evidence. They clarify that it is not an internal conflict, but rather a set of mistakes by the ESR, leading to unequal treatment. A clumsy situation has been formed in the radio-waves of Larissa lately, as a big group of radio station owners have submitted a great amount of formal complaints to the National Broadcasting Council (ESR) against owners of other radio stations. The Greek National Broadcasting Council (ES) according to a later decision, has sent radio 97.2 FM Stereo of Lesvos Prefecture, the official recommendation to stop broadcasting illegally at 97.6 MHz and return to 97.2, from Profitis Ilias of Lesvos Prefecture. What's unbelievable, is that the 3rd Service of ERA (the public radio) operates at the same frequency, from the same location. Radio station "Radio Asty" was announced legal during the last meeting of the National Broadcasting Council, based on the legislation for the unconditional legalization of radio stations owned by political parties.
Radio Asty has been on the airwaves of Athens since the early 90s (first as a Radio City), under the responsibility of the then journalist and politician George Karatzaferis, in synergy with TV channel Tile Asti.
