The Union of Journalists in Thessaloniki (ESIEMTH) called for a 24-hour strike at Radio Thessaloniki, in co-operation with the unions of Personnel and Engineers. Radio Thessaloniki is the radio station with the highest audience and ad rankings. The strike should leave the station without content on the 31st of December.
As the Union of Journalists anounced, "the community of the journalists cannot accept the move of the employers to forcefully reduce the income of the employees, few months after the dismissal of several other employees and the consistent breaking of the labour law and the union agreements. This is the reason why we will be on strike from 6 a.m. on Friday December 31st 2010 to 6 a.m. on Saturday January the 1st".
The union demands:
• withdrawal of the unlawful part-time contracts which have been forcefully imposed by the employers to our colleagues, leading to an income reducred by 25%.
• all workers should work under the terms of collective bargaining agreements in their entirety
• strengthening of the news program of the station.
