Greek radio licenses, digital radio and nationwide radio stations to be introduced end of August

The next step by the Ministry of Digital Policy of Greece will be to settle the licensing of radio stations, with the launch of the digital radio process at the same time. The activation of the digital radio, scheduled for the next half-year, will allow for nationwide radio stations and an increase in the total number of radio stations per prefecture.

In an interview in Sunday's Avgi, the responsible Minister, Nikos Pappas, said that the radio licenses "are following, but it is also our obligation after the agreement with the EU partners to regulate the radio landscape. We are in the process of drafting a law that will come right after the holidays. The transition to the digital radio should soon be organized. Licensing and digital switch-on should take place at the same time. "

More information was provided by the Secretary General of Information and Communication Lefteris Kretsos, who spoke this morning on the ERT's Radio 1. He reiterated that the government is drafting a bill for the licensing of radio stations, which will be submitted to parliament in the end of August.

According to Lefteris Kretsos, the activation of digital radio is a direct priority of the government to enable digital broadcasting in the next six months. Digital radio will allow for nationwide radio stations, and can significantly increase the number of radio stations per prefecture. According to his statements, digital radio allows around 15 to 18 pan-hellenic radio stations and 60 to 68 per prefecture.

At the same time, Lefteris Kretsos pointed out that through the licensing process, the jobs in the TV and radio stations are safeguarded, since the number of required employees is clearly provided as a condition for the granting of the relevant license.
