8th extension for the "temporary legal status" of all Greek radio stations

The deadline for the announcement of issuing new radio licenses by the responsible minister, has been extended once more. The new data lets the government to start the process of issuing radio licenses by 31st December 2012. This has been specified in an amendment, tabled in Parliament in the bill on ratification ordinances concerning regulations about Foundation "Erricos Dunant" (!). The previous deadline expired on 31/12/2012 and the overall 'extension' currently sums up to 8 years.

This is a deadline which is specified in the law by Rousopoulos and referes to the government themselves. Following the enactment of this Act, all governments choose not to proceed with the licensing process, but to grant themselves an extension. This means that the radio stations across the country continue to function with the temporary Certificate of Legal Operation, which have been drafted by the National Broadcasting Council after 1999. This scheme has been deemed unconstitutional by the Council of State.
