An arson attack with gas explosives occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 29 at the entrance of the radio station "Diavlos Rhodopis" in Komotini. An improvised explosive device was placed by unknown ones at the entrance of the building at the intersection of Zimvrakakidon and Themidos streets, where the radio station is based. It consisted of a gas bottle, on the edge of which a piece of cloth soaked with flammable material was attached. The explosion resulted in a minor fire which caused a slight damage to the entrance of the station, without being spread inside the offices. The fire was immediately extinguished by the fire brigade who arrived at the point. The Police of Komotini is conducting preliminary investigations to identify the perpetrators and find out the reason for the inflammatory attempt.
"The administration of the radio station feels the obligation to thank the listeners of Diavlos 92.4 for the huge interest they showed, to allay any concerns caused by, according to the assessment of the Station, a random incident and assure them that the profile that Diavlos 92.4 has maintained for 22 years can not be affected by such events in any way. However, a phenomenon of this kind of violence that has emerged in our city makes us and our listeners wonder and does not fit either the history of our city, but neither the peaceful character of its inhabitants. For these reasons and also because of the absence of the slightest conflict or dispute with anyone and anything, we can reliably conclude that it was random incident."
"If, however, we have reached false conclusion, the actor(s) should know that phones and the e-mail address of our station are known (25310-71300 & 25310-71400) through which they can express without fear any objections they may have. First, this protest would cost less, then they can be sure that Diavlos 92.4 protects any sources of complaints, when they wish to remain anonymous and gives them the respective publicity, even if the one who makes the phonecall admit they did it."
