Several radio stations of Ioannina went off air yesterday, this time due to an uncommon reason: an old radio mast in Liggiades, Ioannina collapsed on the cables of the electrical company. As a result, the power at the site was interrupted, until the damage was repaired. The incident was caused by the antenna mast that used to belong to the radio station Christianismos, which has ceased broadcasts to the city since years. The abandoned mast was victim of the weather conditions, as it has not had any maintenance all these years.
It is pure luck that nobody was in danger, as this same site hosts the trasmitters of all radio stations, including the technical staff that works there. The incident underlines once again the absolute lack of organisation for the transmitting sites, whose operation is based purely on the conscientiousness and the good will of their users.
