Turkish-speaking radio from Komotini to shut down due to economic crisis

Radio City, which has been broadcasting from Komotini on 107,6 FM in Turkish, decided to shut down, since it has been recently going through difficult times due to the economic crisis. The owner of Radio City, Chalit Impram Khalil, said that Radio City, which has been broadcasting uninterrupted for twenty years, will be shut down because of the economic crisis.

Operators of Radio City decided to shut the station because of the economic crisis experienced by Greece too, since they have reached the point that they can not even cover the electricity bill, as they stated.

The owner and manager of radio station Chalit Impram Khalil, in his statement, said: "Radio City, who had the good fortune to be the first radio station to broadcast in Turkish in Western Thrace, has been broadcasting from Komotini, 24 hours a day for twenty years. We decided to terminate our operation in a month. I regret to make this announcement. We apologize to our listeners. Unfortunately, our revenue decreased too much and the current situation is not sufficient for continuing the operation of the station. Every month, our debt is growing more and more."
