Greek public radio employees injured in a clash with Police in front of Parliament

A violent incident took place in the morning, during the demonstration of ERT employees in front of the Parliament, due to the 4-hour strike (12-4 PM) that POSPERT and POESY unions have announced for today, affecting public broadcasting all around Greece. Police, who had earlied blocked the road with vehicles, pushed violently and without provocation the assembled employees. 350 ERT employees were beaten up at 1pm at the beginning of Vas Sofias str by police, who kicked them, punched them and pushed them back. They employees had been stuck on the sidewalk of Syntagma sq for quite some time. Three employees have been injured. One employee who was beaten on the head was taken to hospital. When the situation got calmer, representatives managed to enter parliament and submit a resolution.

We have to remind that the dismissal of 10% of employees (about 380) of EPT, was announced yesterday, under the measure of labor redundancy. Earlier, POSPERT in their statement noted that "the government is addressing the issue of ERT, which is part of the national capital, with an incredible sloppiness. What it is said today, it's got back tomorrow, so that it reappears much worse the day afterwards. This can not be serious politics. Greek workers no longer know what to expect. The government is constantly pulling the rug under their feet. Everybody has been baffled by retractions and amateurism. One would reasonably ask: "Given that new staff is employed in order to meet functional needs, why dismiss the old ones?".
