Florina
After a meeting on February 17, the Administrative Board of the Greek Public Broadcaster (ERT) ordered the switch-off of eleven medium wave transmitters (MW) whereas only nine medium wave transmitters with their respective programs of the Greek Public Radio will keep operating. As it can been seen in the tables and the map below, in fact it is the high-power transmitters that survive, most of which are located near the border and had been used previously for the "International Network of ERA". Additionally ERT retains the frequency of the “First Radio Service” (729) and “Filía” (666) from Attica, and also the one of ERA Sport (792) hosted by the former Voice of America transmitter that was re-installed in 2002 at Malgara. A relatively low power transmitter in Florina will also be retained, probably because of its location being nearby to the FYROM.
Nine regional radio stations will be formed out of the merge of 19 local public radio services, according to the plan announced by Greek Minister of Communication, Ilias Mossialos. According to the plan, only 2 stations remain as they are (North Aegean, based on Lesbos and South Aegean based on Rhodes). Question to the responsible for ERT Minister on the rumored closure of ERA Florina , was submitted by Florina MP Efst. Constantinides. According to the MP, lately developed rumors indicate the possibility of the Public Radio Station of Florina, Western Macedonia to be part of the purification of the public radio service and threatened with closure.
The MP stressed the historicity of the station, founded in 1956 and praises the work of the employees, who "all these years, often under adverse conditions and deficiencies in infrastructure, managed and continue with diligence to offer listeners in the wider region of Western Macedonia extremely high quality program, information, entertainment and program about all areas of interest".
