Greek public radio honours the World Radio Day

The radio stations of all local radio stations of Greek Public Radio are hosting features for the World Radio day. Referring to the history of the stations, including interviews and memories, the local radios are remembering the long history of the public radio service in the countryside and honour its offer to the listeners and the land. Listeners' phonecalls, talking about their relationship with the radio are also being aired.

ERA3 and the Ensembles of ERT participate in the celebration with several events, including a live concert from the studio C of Greek Radio at 12 noon. In parallel, the "Voice of Greece", bridging with the Greek Diaspora, is interviewing Greeks abroad, through all of its shows.

The ERT archive, hosted in www.ert-archives.gr, is featuring in two parts the documentary of Stavros Stratigakos "Close the eyes in order to see", produced in 2009, which is covering the 70 years of the Greek Radio. The documentary goes through the history of the radio in Greece, from the early 1928 untill the emerging of TV in 1966.

This same documentary will be shown at 20.30 by the "Theme evening" of ET1, which is dedicated to the World Radio Day. Right after it, there will be a discussion, co-ordinated by journalist Nikos Megrelis. Director General of Radio, Dimitris Papadimitriou, writer and journalist Marilena Politopoulou, and journalist Makis sheep are participating in the panel. The feature of ET1 closes at 23.00, with an episode of the documentary series "Backstage", entitled "Manos Hadjidakis - Third Program."

The local radios stations have modified their program, particularly for today, from 0800 to 1400. As part of the celebration, citizens that participated in the project "Make your own show" are talking about their radio experience. Local officials and local personalities are referring to their relationship with the radio today, whereas many of the employees of ERA are being interviewed about their memories from their duty in radio. ERA Komotinis is hosting the Head and members of the Regional Administration, the Mayor and members of the City Council, citizens, artists, publishers, authors, students of Democritus University, freelancers etc. The Interior Minister Evripidis Stylianidis reveals his own contribution on creating the first radio station of Komotini in 1985.

Elementary school students from the first and the fourth grade of the 24th Elementary School of Kavala, participating in the celebration of ERT for the World Radio Day. Accompanied by their teachers Paraskevi Mouriadou, Anastassia Siskou and Napoleoda Koukouzina, they were guided in the building and they got their questions about the radio operation answered. Afterwards, they participated in the show "10 at ERA", where the 4th year students expressed their opinions about radio. The young studens from A1 presented a radio theater play and the ones from A2 talked about the hobby of reading books. The rest of the students of the 24th Elementary School listened to the radio show in their classrooms. A presentation about the Public Radio of Kavala had taken place earlier at school.
