Radio Xenios has officially ceased operation after many adventures in recent months, as confirmed by the representative of the employees. Ms Kitsaki in a press release, stated:
"Today, 8th of December 2011, the third oldest municipal radio station of Athens, Xenios FM stopped broadcasting following a decision of the municipality administration. We quote some brief history:
On March 2, 2011, the broadcasting equipment of the station had been stolen from the transmitting site in Zacharitsa area of Pikilo mountain. The radio had been totally silenced, until the afternoon of the 30th of September, when it came back on air playing music. Of course, the stolen equipment had not been replaced. It was just that the Municipal Authority of Fyli (as Mayor Dimitris Bouraimis himself announced in the City Council) decided to allow the station to broadcast through a link, from the premises of KISS FM on Hymettus.
The 52 employees of the radio station (16 journalists and 16 technicians, 20 office personnel) remain unpaid, and we are working on retention since mid July 2010!
The Mayor of the City of Filis (which resulted after the merger of municipalities of Ano Liosia, Race and Zefyri) Dimitris Bouraimis does not seem interested to solve the problem of the station's employees, concerning the unpaid salaries, which the previous administration by Christos Pappas had started neglecting. He provocatively declares that he is not obliged to recognize the debts of the former Municipal Authority.
The employees of the station have filed complaints, injunctions and lawsuit to the judicial authorities, claiming the unpaid salaries.
Thank you for your interest
